New Interventional and Pharmacological Treatments for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Dr. Frank J. Veith, The William J. von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery, Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY) and Professor of Surgery, The Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY); Dr. Takao Ohki, Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY) and Associate Professor of Surgery, The Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY); and Dr. Juan C. Parodi, Vice Director of the Postgraduate Training Program in Cardiovascular Surgery, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Director, Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires, and Clinical Professor of Surgery, Chief, Department of Vascular Surgery, Wayne State University (Detroit, MI) will moderate a panel of vascular experts who will address new interventional and pharmacological treatments of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
The presentation will take place at VEITHsymposium™, November 22, 1:00 p.m. at the New York Sheraton Hotel and Towers (New York, NY).
Aortic aneurysms are caused by a weakening of the aortic wall resulting in "ballooning" of the vessel. If not diagnosed and treated, aneurysms can grow to rupture, possibly leading to death. Despite the advancements in the treatment of aneurysms, statistics show that ruptured aortic aneurysms are the 13th leading cause of death in the United States.
Drs. Veith and Okhi will present the outcomes of thirty-three patients with ruptured aortic aneurysms who were treated with a proprietary "one size fits most" endovascular graft.
An esteemed panel of international vascular specialists will be presenting:
-- Dr. Roy K. Greenberg, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Ohio State University and Director, Endovascular Research, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, (Cleveland, Ohio) will discuss "What is the Ideal Stent-Graft and Will it be Made?"
-- Dr. Michael Lawrence-Brown, Emeritus Consultant, Mount Vascular Service, West Perth (Western Australia) will discuss "Long-Term Complications of Zenith Endografts: Detection, Early Correction and Quality Improvements"
-- Dr. Wolf J. Stelter, Professor of Surgery, Chief of Surgery Städtische Kliniken Frankfurt-Höchst (Frankfurt, Germany) will discuss "A New and Better graft for EVAR"
-- Dr. Jack L. Cronewett, Professor of Surgery, Dartmouth Medical School, Chief, Section of Vascular Surgery, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (Lebanon, New Hampshire) will discuss "When Should AAA’s be Repaired in Good and Poor Risk Patients"
-- Dr. Robert W. Thompson, Professor of Surgery, Radiology and Cell Biology & Physiology, Washington University School of Medicine and Attending Vascular Surgeon, Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis, MO) will discuss "Will Doxycycline Treatment Provide Effective Growth Suppression of AAAs: Status of Laboratory and Clinical Studies"
