MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY MANICURE LAST WITH THESE TIPS FROM TWEEZERMAN AND ESSIE COSMETICS
Port Washington, NY – November 2003 – With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, you might not have time to visit your favorite salon or spa for a professional manicure. What steps can you take to max out your manicure and make it last from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve? Tweezerman and Essie Cosmetics have your top five tips for extending the life of your at-home holiday manicure:
1. The key to the perfect holiday manicure is to prep nails prior to polishing. Make sure nails are clean with Tweezerman’s Dual Nail Brush, which features 2 bristle textures: soft, flexible bristles for hands and top of nails, and small, stiffer bristles for cleaning under nails (SRP: $2.50). File nails to shape and buff away any imperfections. When shaping, file in one direction instead of back and forth. Use long, smooth strokes and never saw at the nail. Avoid metal files as they can damage and tear nails. Instead, try Tweezerman’s Shape and Shine Nail Tool to file, smooth, buff and shine nails (SRP: $5).
2. Next, moisturize nails, cuticles and surrounding areas. Soaking hands in warm water or applying a warm cloth helps to lock in moisture. Follow by applying Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil (SRP: $8), an intense blend of enriched oils that works to soothe and moisturize even the driest cuticles.
3. Remove dry, cracked skin on hands with Tweezerman’s Pedro Handy, a two-sided ceramic tool that smoothes calluses and exfoliates dry skin (SRP: $18). Then, moisturize hands using EssieSpa Kirby Crème - specially formulated with cucumber extract and avocado oil to repair dry, cracked skin. (SRP: $15). Once you’ve moisturized, gently push back cuticles with Tweezerman’s Pushy (SRP: $16). Trim hangnails using Tweezerman’s new Squeeze ‘n’ Snip (SRP: $20), a revolutionary nipper that handles like a tweezer. Its hand-filed tips ensure precise cutting of even the stingiest hangnail.
4. Now you’re ready to polish! The most important step (and often forgotten) is to apply basecoat before nail polish colour. Essie First Base Basecoat (SRP: $8) protects the nail and provides a base surface for flawless adherence of nail polish. Follow by applying 2 coats of your favorite Essie nail polish (Bordeaux or Ballet Slippers – SRP $8 each). Or, go glam with Essie’s new Winter colours such as Brilliant Ball Gown, Red Carpet Glam, Photo Op and Runway Reality. Make sure you have the best dressed nails this holiday season as red is the it-colour for Winter ’03 according to Essie Weingarten, Founder of Essie Cosmetics, Ltd.
5. Finish up by applying a topcoat to provide the protective layer to seal in the base coat and to keep color shiny. Essie To Dry For (topcoat & drier) is a perfect choice. Simply wait 2 minutes to apply Essie Quick-e Drying Drops (SRP: $15). Nails will be rock solid and ready for all holiday soirees in just minutes! For a quick pick-me-up, apply Essie Shine-e (SRP $15) every other day for a fresh, just walked-out-of-the-salon finish.
When the holidays are over and you’ve got more time on your hands, be sure to make an appointment at your favorite salon or spa. Many of the products mentioned here are available at salons and spas nationwide.
